Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
Perform research in order to write and support an original thesis.
Identify bias in different media.
Debate different subjects by creating logical arguments and understanding multiple points-of-view.
Respect others’ views.
Understand the process to influence national, state, and local government.
Understand the complexities of international systems that continue to develop while considering national needs and international needs
Current Events/Social Issues Student Presentations & Paper
You will be required to present in front of the class once per semester
Fall Presentations = Solo Spring Presentation = With a partner
You will sign up for a future date to present
You will be required to pick a current “Social Issue” and conduct research on your topic
You will then lead the whole class in a discussion based on your Issue, and required to create discussion ?s for the whole class to use to spark discussion.
Requirements:
Multimedia Presentation (Slides, Preszi, etc)
2 Credible Sources
Multimedia Coverage From News Outlets or Social Media Included in Presentation - 2 total
2 Discussion ?s to ask your classmates
3 Paragraph Research Paper on the background of your topic
Students listening to the presentations will have questions to answer for their daily grade
