1. Explain the structure and powers of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government
2. Describe the legislative process in the U.S. Congress
3. Identify the legislative branch’s role in the system of checks and balances/separation of powers
4. Identify the powers of the Executive Branch
5. Describe the responsibilities of the President of the USA
6. Locate the sources of presidential power within the U.S. Constitution
7. Identify the basic levels and functions of the Judicial Branch
8. Compare the levels of the United States court system
9. Demonstrate the progress of a case as it moves through the system
