Homework Hints:
November 26th, 2012: Concept Map
Take these specific vocabulary terms and create a concept map about waves. Make sure that you have connections between terms, not just arrows.
Wave
Energy
Refraction
Diffraction
Reflection
Constructive Interference
Destructive Interference
Amplitude
Barrier
Wavelength
Frequency
Wave Speed
Medium
REMEMBER - the key to Concept Maps is the relationships between the terms. There is no "Right" or "Wrong" as long as you can explain the relationship between the two.
November 9th, 2012: Wave Practice (back of Wave Puzzle):
1. You were given the wavelength (1.2 meters) and the velocity (3.5 meters/ second). If you are looking for the frequency use the yellow equation above. Your answer should be less than 3 Hertz.
2. You were given the velocity (343 meters/ second) and the frequency (500 Hertz). If you are looking for the wavelength use the yellow equation above. Your answer should be less than 1 meter.
3. You were given the time it takes the wave to travel (3 seconds) and the velocity of the wave (1.2 meters/ second). If you are looking for the distance the wave travels use the purple equation above. Your answer should be less than 4 meters.
4. You were given the frequency (8000 Hz) and the velocity of the wave (343 meters/ second). If you are looking for the wavelength use the yellow equation above. Your answer should be less than 0.1 meters.
5. a. Make sure you understand the definition of the word period.
b. You were given the Period (13 seconds) and asked to find the frequency. Use the blue equation above and your answer should be less than 0.1 Hertz.
6. You were given the Period (30 seconds) and asked to find the frequency. Use the blue equation above and your answer should be less than 0.1 Hertz.
7. You were gievn the frequency (0.05 Hertz) and the wavelength (10 meters). If you are looking for the velocity use the yellow equation above. Your answer should be around half a meter per second.
