Safety Contract

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Safety is covered in each unit that is taught. Please stress to your child the importance of following directions and behaving in an appropriate manner. The following rules are of particular concern and although they are covered in class, I ask that you also review them with your child:

1. Wear safety glasses as appropriate. Yes, you may bring in your own safety glasses.

2. Appropriate footwear (shoes that cover the whole foot) MUST BE WORN EVERY DAY. If you are not wearing appropriate footwear, you may get your gym shoes, you may borrow a pair from the office or you will sit in the hallway and complete a written assignment.

3. Breaking wood IS NOT acceptable - wood is to be cut - NOT broken.

4. The creation of any “weapon like” object will not be tolerated and will be referred to the office.

5. Inform me immediately of any injury, no matter how small.

6. No horseplay - particularly no running or throwing things.

7. When in doubt, ask me, do not rely upon another student.

8. Long hair must be tied back, sleeves pushed up, and ties, rings, etc. removed before using any machine.

9. Don’t use any machines or equipment without my permission and if you break something - let me know.

10. Nothing from my room should leave my room without permission - such as tools, materials, or examples.

11. Absolutely NO electronic gear while using tools and machines. Otherwise all school rules apply regarding electronics.

12. Cleanliness is part of safety. Keep the floor around workbenches and machines clean and clear of scraps at ALL times. Clean up spills, pick up trash, wipe tables and work areas, etc.

I would also like to be made aware of any concerns that you may have such as allergies or visual problems.
