General information about the Adult High School and GED Program
🔹 What is the difference between the Adult High and the GED Programs?
This handout summarizes some of the differences between Adult High School and GED
Questions having to do with general access to the class and communication with instructors:
.
🔹 "I'm a little concerned about communication with the instructor if I don't have a web cam or mic"
You can request a loan of a Chromebook (computer) loan and/or a Hotspot that give you internet access; click here for more information about how to request the college loan you a Chromebook or Hotspot.
If you have a computer, but it doesn't have a webcam, that is not a problem. You can still see us and talk to us, but we will just see a box with your name instead of one with a video of you. We will probably ask most students to turn off video anyway so it doesn't affect bandwidth (slow things down).
If you have a computer but it doesn't have a microphone, again it's not a problem if you also have a phone (cell phone or landline). You can just log in to the computer so you can see us and call in on your phone so you can hear us. If you do need to do call in, email your instructor and we will give you the phone number and meeting code. (If you don't have long distance on your landline phone, or limited minutes on your cell, don't worry, we can still communicate! We'll just use the Zoom "chat" feature, which is just like texting.
If you have a smartphone, you can access the meetings but some things might be a bit small! We'll work around that.
If you don't have regular access to a computer, then you can still call in, or we can work something out.
If you have any issues with connection, please let your instructor know. See the Updates and General Info page for all of our email addresses.
For Adult High School Students
.
🔹" If I don't have a textbook , will I be able to continue the math course?" (or any of the other AHS courses that used textbooks)?
Yes, you will be able to continue and pick up close to where you left off. Your instructor will review your situation and then talk to you about which option will be the best fit for you. You'll be covering the same material and meeting the same course requirements. For example, for Math B, you will continue working on fractions, decimals and percents, but depending on your situation (what kind of computer access you have), you might be watching online lessons and doing online worksheets, or you might be working on worksheets we email you and then showing us your work during the online class.
We are currently working on creating online versions of the classes that students are enrolled in. We will work with you to help you complete your courses.
🔹 Will Adult High School Students still have to meet minimum "in-class" attendance requirements?
Yes. We will be keeping attendance when you log in online and work on assignments. We will add those hours to the hours that you have put into the course when you were in the physical classroom. If you have questions about that, ask your instructor.
,
🔹 "If I have more than 2 (Adult High School) subjects, would I finish one and then move on to the next one? Or would I have to add it to my class schedule?"
We will try to keep things as close to our normal classroom procedure as possible. When you complete a course (met all of the assignment and hour requirements), you'll get your grade and credits. Then we would look at what subject you need to work on next. If you aren't already enrolled in that course, we'll give you the enrollment code and you'd enroll just like normally do, through logging into pipeline, then going to registration, and adding the class.

.
🔹"Are we still able to sign up for GED test?"
YES! But starting October 2021, we are resuming in person testing, but there is also an option, still, to take the test in an online format. click here for more information on how that works: ⭐ GED Testing Info and Updates (Updated August 25, 2020)
Students who continue attending regularly in our online virtual classroom can also receive vouchers to take the GED Ready official PRACTICE tests that are similar to the actual tests and, starting in late February there are grants to help pay for the actual tests. See instructor for details.
