Welcome to Local, State, and National Government and to a new school year at FDHS! We look forward to working with you this year; however, there is a lot of work to be done. This year-long course challenges students to become political analysts and commentators regarding local, national, and global current events and government operations as it pertains to protecting and promoting the rights of citizens and our shared environment. We will explore the historical developments of government institutions and their impact on today’s society through inquiry and conceptual-based investigations.
As an IB Middle Years Programme course, students will explore the key and related concepts of the PGCPS and MYP curriculums through the six global contexts. Students will participate in a variety of learning experiences to include the following: debates, analyzing of primary source documents, individual and group projects, exams, authentic summative assessments, formative assessments, journal writing and reflecting, essays, and more. It is expected that the student, parent, and teacher provide 100% effort into making this a successful school year and experience.
It should be noted that successful completion of this course is required for high school graduation. In other words, you will NOT be able to graduate without passing this class! Additionally, we will be preparing for the mandatory High School Assessment (HSA) exam at the end of May. Students are expected to complete all required assignments according to set deadlines. The expectations, standards, and work are designed to enhance student’s skills and learning. We will become more effective inquirers, communicators, thinkers, risk-takers, and reflective and caring investigators, while remaining open-minded, principled, balanced, and knowledgeable citizens…. Welcome to LSN Government!
