Hello students and welcome to Eleanor Roosevelt High School!

Hopefully, you have all had a great summer and are now ready and focused to be as successful as you possibly can this upcoming school year. I wanted to use this space to tell you a little about myself.

History, especially US History, has been a passion of mine since the second grade. For that reason I left the great and glorious state of New Jersey after high school to find a college near Washington DC. I earned two bachelor degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park, one in US History and the other in Education. I was a student teacher at this school for the 2001-2002 school year and was offered a job for the 2002-2003 year. While teaching here I have earned a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University and have become a National Board Certified Teacher.

I used to coach the swim team for four years, and am proud to say that the team went undefeated during that time. I sponsored the Model UN club for nine years. I also sponsored the school’s Mock Trial team for twelve years.

I have taken students to the following countries: Turkey, Greece, China, Peru, Switzerland and Italy. Finally, I worked on a Victory Garden at the school for three years so our harvested crops could go and help families in need.

I hope that your takeaway from this little bio is two-fold.

First, that I am qualified to teach you not just US History but the academic skills and habits necessary for you to be successful not just in the ninth grade, but throughout high school and college. Second, I care about the students who attend Eleanor Roosevelt and am willing to invest my time, energy and enthusiasm in helping them become the best they can be as students and as citizens in our local, national and global community.

You are now one of those students! So know that I will have high expectations for you and will expect your best through the first to last day of school. I can't wait to get started!

Sincerely,

Mr. Lord
