“UNDERSTANDING URBAN SUSTAINABILITY PATHWAYS FROM A KNOWLEDGE-ACTION SYSTEMS PERSPECTIVE: THE KASA APPROACH”

Tischa A Muñoz-Erickson is a Research Social Scientist with the USDA Forest Service’s International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF) in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. She holds a PhD in Sustainability from Arizona State University and a M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from Northern Arizona University. Her current research focuses on sustainability governance and transition management in cities. Tischa developed the knowledge-action systems analysis (KASA) approach to assess how co-production processes, or the networks of actors interacting in the production, sharing, and use of knowledge for sustainability, work and shape governance and transitions toward sustainable futures. In addition to scientific research, Tischa is actively involved in developing transdisciplinary arrangements, programs, and tools that can facilitate collaborations among diverse research, policy, and civic-sector stakeholders. She serves as Program Manager of the San Juan ULTRA program, Principal Investigator of a USAID climate adaptation project in the Dominican Republic, and as Co-Principal Investigator of the NSF’s Urban Resilience to Extreme Events Sustainability Research Network (UREx SRN).
