For our regular weekly art classes supplies are always provided for the students. They may however bring their own pencil or supplies if they want to, but it is not needed or necessary. I do not allow students to share supplies that the bring from home, it is for persona use only.
If a student is absent there will be assignments available on google classroom that they can complete to replace the missing assignments. This is for all grades and classes from Kindergarten to 5th grade. All of our home instruction assignments can be completed for full credit using only a pencil, however if you have other supplies available you are more than welcome to use them. For example, crayons, markers, colored pencils can be a nice addition to your picture. During the pandemic an art kit was sent home to each student. Many students still have their sets or their sibilines sets and these will work fine. If your student is going to be out for an extended time I can also lend them supplies to do their projects with that they can return when they come back to school. Please let me know in advance.
Often times students ask me what type of art supplies would be a good addition to their home collections and what brands to buy. Here are my suggestions: For colored pencils "Crayola" makes a medium quality for a reasonable price. If you want professional quality "Prismacolor" are what professional artists use for work, but they are VERY expensive. For watercolor sets, I tend to mix the cheaper sets from the dollar store with 'Crayola", "Sargeant", or "Prang". This will give you a variety of colors. Professional artists would use water colors that come in a tube. They are harder for beginning artists to use so I suggest you try the old fashioned water color sets that come in the plastic pans (like we use in class) before investing in tubes. When buying markers the famous brand that most professionals use is Posca or Copic markers. I personally use imitation markers that you can get at 5 below or walmart. You would ideally want a dual ended water based marker and some sharpies in different thicknesses. For school art projects a water based marker or a washable one will usually work best. For posters you might want a permanent marker that won't smudge.
If you have any other questions about supplies send me a message or ask me in class and I'll be happy to help!
