The Sketchbook Challenge is intended for grades 6 - 8 that would like to challenge themselves to create more artwork. Any students that would like to draw these assignments in grades K to 8 are all welcome to try the challenge. Any students that successfully participate can receive extra credit. Feel free to use google and youtube for ideas or resources but remember not to copy exactly, because that is Plagiarism. You can change an idea and make it your own or become inspired by it. Good luck!
Week 1 - Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be of a TREE ( a whole tree, a piece of a tree, different types of trees, use your imagination)
Week 2 - Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be of an ANIMAL (real or fantasy)
Week 3 - Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be of a BUILDING or HOUSE
Week 4- Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be a CITY SCENE, or imply URBAN or CITY LIFE (Yes Passaic is a city, so is NYC)
Week 5- Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be a STILL LIFE (a grouping of inanimate objects, for example a vase of flowers or a bowl of fruit. Use your imagination)
Week 6 - Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be a LANDSCAPE (that is an outdoor scene, with sky and water, sky and land, sky and grass....etc;)
Week 7 - Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be about TRANSPORTATION, TRAVEL or MOTION
Week 8 - Draw 5 or more drawings. At least one drawing must be about FALL ( MP 1 & 2 students) or SPRING ( MP 3 & 4 students), things that grow this time of year, the changing of the weather and nature
Week 9 - Draw 5 drawings, ALL MUST BE of HUMAN FACES (proportionate and realistic, with necks and details).
Week 10 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one drawing must be a SELF PORTRAIT
Week 11 - Draw 5 drawings ALL MUST BE of PROPORTIONATE PEOPLE (realistic with details), not cartoon people. Draw the best version that you know how.
Week 12 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be about THANKSGIVING, YOUR FAMILY, NATIVE AMERICAN INDIANS, or the fall HARVEST SEASON
Week 13 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be a WINTER SCENE ( MP 1 & 2 students) or SUMMER SCENE ( MP 3 & 4 students) - draw something seasonal, about the changing of the seasons and weather, the types of plants and flowers that grow or don't grow this time of year, or a holiday activity (such as Christmas, New Years, 4th of July, Memorial Day) that is relevant.
Week 14 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be a GEOMETRIC DESIGN, using patterns and symmentry
Week 15 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be TRIBAL or MULTICULTURAL.
Week 16 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be about your future, your goals, your dreams, what you want to be when you grow up or where you see yourself in 5 or 10 years.
Week 17 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be an ABSTRACT DESIGN, using more than one COLOR, not just black and white.
Week 18 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be about your culture, your ethnic identity, hour cultural/ethnic pride, where your family is from. Do not draw the flag of that country! If you do not know your ethnicity you can draw American pride, or pride in your School, Lincoln Middle School.
Week 19 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be your own personal LOGO. Design an invent a logo for yourself, something that represents you. A logo is a simplified image with only a little text or none at all. You do not have to use words, but if you do, keep it short to just one phrase.
Week 20 - Draw 5 drawings. At least one must be a version of your NAME, in some sort of fancy lettering or calilgraphy. Google images of different fonts for ideas. Graffiti style is OK, but boring every day printing and script is not. Be creative and elaborate and very detailed!
