How to Make an Infusion Plan for Computer and Information Literacy
Read the outcomes and apply them to your program
Take a look at the relevant learning outcomes in the SUNY General Education Requirements. Research abilities are specifically referred to in the Computer and Information Literacy category and also the Writing category.
Computer and Information Literacy
• understand and use basic research techniques; and
• locate, evaluate, and synthesize information from a variety of sources.
Writing
• research a topic, develop an argument, and organize supporting details.
You will also find it useful to keep the other learning outcomes in Writing and those for the Critical Thinking category in mind. An integrated approach to these abilities can make instruction, learning, and assessment more productive and less time-consuming.
With regard to use of information sources, what do the students in your program need to be able to do:
Above all, keep it simple. A small handful of abilities that would be useful for years to come is far more important than an exhaustive list of every possible ability
Map the re-stated outcomes to your program (what are you already doing?)
Your librarian may have already created a map based on his or her perspective on your program. The Writing Plan for your program will also be helpful.
Include the outcomes in assessment and improvement of your program
Ideally you will make substantial changes in your program and assessments only when you identify a gap or shortcoming in what your students are learning.
