05/13/24 - Week 37 Classroom News!

Important Information: 

• No homework packets for our final 2 weeks. 

• Our field trip was lots of fun and the majority of kids gave it great reviews! The kids did a great job as well. Thank you to Mr. Walls and Mrs. Klayer for helping out on this day. 

• Happy Mother’s Day this weekend to all you amazing moms! The students worked hard on your mother’s day gifts this past week. 

• Our last day of school Pizza Party letter went home on 05/09. Here is an electronic copy too.

• The teachers and room parents are planning 10 stations for the first graders to rotate through on the last day of school. Please see the Sign Up Genius Link here if you are able to donate needed items. 

• I am also looking for 3 volunteers for the last day of school to help out from around 8:50-11:30. This will include the stations and helping with our pizza party. I need 2 parents for each of the stations listed as Room 15. Please see the sign up link and add your name to the available spots if interested. (First come, first serve) First Grade End of the Year Party

• Stricker’s Grove will be held on Friday, June 7th 5-10pm (rides open at 6pm). Presale tickets are due Friday, May 17th. Tickets are $5 per person (kids under age 2 are free). Please return the form and money to the office in an envelope marked Stricker’s Grove or use the MemberHub link below. CASH ONLY at the gate on the day of the event. Stricker’s Grove is a cash only facility. Food and drinks are available to be purchased. People are welcome to bring their own food and drinks, but alcohol is not permitted. • We also need volunteers to help work the gate at Stricker’s Grove. The volunteers will need to collect money ($5 each person, kids under age 2 are free) or check people off the list of presale tickets. We have 45 minute time slots. Volunteers will receive 2 free tickets per family. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Stricker's Grove Volunteer Opportunities 

• Important Dates

  • Tuesday, May 14th - The last PTA meeting of the year at 6:30pm in the teacher lunch room. All are invited to attend. 

    • We will also attend the 5th grade market day event during the school day. (There is nothing you need to do for this.)

  • Thursday, May 16th - Track & Field! First graders will have track and field events from 11:45-1:45 pm. All first graders should wear their JFD Black walk a thon shirts, shorts, and gym shoes on this day. Students can wear sunglasses and hats if they choose. Please send in a water bottle with their name on it! Sunscreen should be applied before coming to school. **Mrs. Casey and Mrs. Yeary will be helping out on this day**

  • Friday, May 17th - Enrichment Day 

  • Thursday, May 23rd - Duebbers Ice Cream Truck (I am looking for someone to send in 21 bowls and 2 things of sprinkles if possible.)

  • Friday, May 24th - Last day of school.

  • In reading, our theme will be: Understanding the Natural World, Oceans The books this week include: Hello Ocean, On Kiki’s Reef, Sea Turtles, Dolphin Baby, Rainbow Fish to the Rescue

  • Our shared reading book: The Farmer & The Crow, The Big Green Scary Monster

• Writing: Realistic Fiction

  • Publishing realistic fiction stories

  • Finishing making our box sets from our cereal boxes. 

  • Poetry Books

  • First Grade Memory Books

• Math: Chapter 

  • Assessments

  • Fact Fluency

  • Review

• Science: 

  • Classifying and sorting ocean animals. This past week we began growing lima bean seeds to watch their roots grow and sprout.
