Parents,
Students are expected to practice their addition and subtraction fact fluency. Similar to reading homework, parents should record on the line in the Bear Binder how math fact fluency was practiced. (I.E. “Flashcards” , “Xtra math website”
What is fact fluency?
Math fact fluency is the ability to recall the answers to basic math facts automatically and without hesitation. Fact fluency is gained through significant practice, with mastery of basic math facts being a goal of both teachers and parents.
First graders should practice both addition and subtraction facts. Later in the year fact fluency is reported on the first grade report card. Typically at the beginning of the first grade students only practice basic addition facts. (1+1, 2+3, 5+5....problems where the addends are 10 or less. Double facts are also good to practice. 2+2, 3+3, 5+5, 8+8, etc.)
Here are some ideas of how to practice, but you are NOT limited to just these ideas. If you google “addition fact fluency” or “subtract fact fluency I’m certain you will find many more games.

There are also more websites located on this website. Click Math Links on the left hand side. Then scroll to the bottom where it says Math Fact Fluency.
***REMEMBER - Prodigy is a math website, but it does NOT practice fact fluency. Fact fluency is where the purpose is to practice answering quickly!***
Thank you,
