Technology

ALL students and their parents must sign the Technology Agreement located in the Parent Portal under "forms" to be able to use technology in the classroom.

Using technology will be an important aspect of every day in grade 5.

Students are responsible for taking care of school Chromebooks and plugging them in when not in use so they stay charged.

Personal Chromebooks from home will be sent home every night and students will be encouraged to plug them in to charge overnight so they are ready to take to school in the morning. If you would prefer your child to keep their personal Chromebook at school, please send a note with your child saying it is okay to leave at school.

Chromebooks must come to school every day.

Please ensure your child has a set of headphones or earbuds they can take to school with them (or leave in their backpacks). We do a lot of differentiated learning, especially in a split grade classroom. Students need to be able to listen to educational videos, and use Google Read and Write's text to speech technology to help them access more difficult texts. Ideally, headphones would include a microphone so they can record audio and video responses to their learning, such as they do on Flipgrid.

Please label your child's headphones/ear buds with their name.

There are many passwords and class codes to keep track of. If your child is having difficulty logging into their Google Account or any of our learning websites, please let me know. I can usually reset their password for them.

All students in the OCSB participate in this program of grade-appropriate lessons teaching the responsible use of technology. Lessons include learning about online safety, responsibility, digital citizenship, digital etiquite, cyber-bullying, passwords etc.

Loving God,

When we forget to love our neighbour, come into our hearts.  Remind us that we are at our best when we are in community.

Help us to see the world with eyes of compassion and  remind us to stop along the way as the Good Samaritan did.

We make this prayer in the name of Jesus, Prince of Peace.

Amen
