Grade 7: Unit 4 - Fractions
By the end of this unit, I will be able to:
· Add and subtract fractions
· Divide whole numbers by simple fractions
· Understand repeated addition and multiplication of fractions
This unit follows Chapter 9: Fraction Operation. Students will not have access to a calculator on a quiz or test. Although students will be sometimes using the textbook, I will be teaching the concepts slightly differently than the examples.
There are many apps available that can help with fractions. The best ones that I have found are: Least Common Denominator, Simplify Fractions and Fraction Plus. Although students will not be able to use these apps during a test, they might come in handy to check work over. Students will be able to use the apps (and their calculator) for the Sacred Heart Yearbook Assignment.
Students will be given a few days in class to refresh their fraction knowledge base. By the end of the review classes, students will be expected to be able to complete the tasks below.
