Grade 7 – Patterning and Algebra
By the end of this unit, I will be able to:
· - Represent linear growing patterns (sketch, table of values, scatter plot)
· -Write an algebraic expression that describes the pattern
· -Calculate the term number (from the term value)
· - Calculate the term value (from the term number)
This unit will work a little differently than Unit 1. We will not be using the textbook for the majority of the lessons. For extra help or for extension questions the following textbook lessons are applicable: 4.2, 4.3 and 4.5.
Instead of teaching this unit in small chunks, there will only be a couple of formal teaching days. Students will be working (independently as well as in small groups) for most of the unit. Many students find writing algebraic expressions difficult and may benefit from watching the YouTube videos posted below.
