Counselors are happy to help you on your path toward the future. Regardless of what your plans are, and even if you don't know what they entail we are here to help. We will continually share updates here, but if you have questions or concerns, please contact your school counselor directly.
We want to make you aware of some helpful information regarding college planning. We will update this page with information as it becomes available.
Beginning the week-September 18 counselors will be holding senior seminars during E-block. These seminars will cover all aspects of the college application process from searching for a college to the application.
The Counseling Office will be hosting a College Planning Night on Wednesday, September 21 in the South Auditorium.
During the first weeks of school, seniors who are considering a four-year college should be asking their former teachers for letters of recommendation. The maximum number of recommendations required by a college is two, some colleges are only looking for 1 letter.
Seniors Interviews are required if you will need a counselor's letter of recommendation. Counselors usually write a letter of recommendation for every senior on their caseload. Counselors will need up to 4 weeks to write your letter of recommendation so you must plan accordingly and ahead of your college deadline. If you are applying for Early Action/Early Decision please sign up for a senior interview appointment during the first month of school.
College Essay Help:
NHHEAF (New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation) is holding a Virtual College Essay Prep session on October 3, 2023 at 5:30pm. Please click here to register.
College representatives will be visiting South this fall. Students need to sign up for these visits using their Naviance accounts. College visits are a good way to familiarize yourself with a college, ask questions, and sometimes meet the person who will be reading your admission application. In order to sign up for a college visit, log into your Naviance account and click on the top tab labeled "Colleges"
The Tuition Break Program provides students with significant tuition savings when students enroll at an out-of-state public college or university within New England and pursue an approved field of study.
In order for your counselor to send your college application credentials (i.e., letter of recommendation, secondary school report, etc.) you much complete the FERPA Match. The FERPA match links your Naviance Account to your Common Application.
Financial Aid:
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid: The FAFSA will be available sometime in December. Both the parent and student must create a FSA ID in order to begin the application. Students should carefully review their college's financial aid deadlines.
CSS Profile: . The CSS Profile is available on October 1. Approximately 250 colleges and universities require families to complete the CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA. Students should pay particular attention to the financial aid forms required by the colleges they are applying to.
Nashua South will be hosting a Financial Aid Night for parents and students on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. A representative from NHEAF will be here to discuss the FAFSA, CSS Profile, and the Award Letter.
Please join us for our annual College Fair on, Monday, October 30, 2023 at 6 pm. This is a good way to solidify your college list.
Join us for Apply NH (formerly College Application Day on Tuesday, November 15, 2023. This is a school day event that allows students to submit their college applications to all of the New Hampshire colleges and universities and waive the application fee. Students should reach out to their counselors with questions.
There is a scholarship list available on Naviance. This list is updated often so check back to make sure you don't miss anything important.
Mid-Year Reports: Mid-Year Reports are sent to your colleges after the end of Semester 1. These reports inform the colleges of your academic progress.
