Codebreaker EDU Byte: An AI space for use in education*

*The one drawback to this tool is that you can only input approximately 500 characters (letters, numbers, etc) per prompt

Appropriate Uses of AI for a Grade 9 Research Paper:

1.  Explain or Summarize

Use AI to explain complex topics or summarize long texts

2. Topic Selection

Use AI to brainstorm potential topics by generating ideas based on your interests or current events.  Narrow down your topic by using AI to provide summaries of relevant information, which can help you narrow down your topic.

2. Creating an Outline

Use AI to help you generate an outline before starting to write. This can include main sections such as introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, and even suggest subpoints for each section.

3. Editing and Revising

Let AI assist in the editing process by identifying areas where your writing could be clearer or more concise. It can suggest synonyms, improve sentence structure, and help eliminate repetitive wording, enhancing the overall readability of your paper.

4. Study Aid

Use AI to create practice quizzes or flashcards. Ask AI to explain concepts in simpler terms.

Inappropriate uses of AI for a Grade 9 research paper include:

1. Plagiarism

Using AI to generate entire sections or the entirety of your paper without proper attribution is unethical and constitutes plagiarism.

2. Cheating

Asking AI for answers to specific homework questions without attempting them first

3. Over-reliance

Using AI as a substitute for reading assigned texts or participating in class discussions

4. Bypassing Learning

Using AI to skip the research process or learning how to synthesize information from various sources prevents you from gaining essential research and writing skills.
