Faculty Grades
Each speech is evaluated by the Tunstall faculty in consideration of the following criteria: poise, delivery, clarity, and quality of content, originality, organization, logic, persuasiveness, and research, etc.
Faculty members use a variety of evaluation forms and worksheets to submit their evaluations. Some teachers prefer primarily qualitative comments; others take a more quantitative approach. Click below to view samples.
Unsatisfactory speeches, as judged by 20% or more of the grading faculty, must be revised and redelivered to the Tunstall faculty.
Preparation Grade
In addition, each speech is assigned a preparation grade by the speech advisor. This evaluation is based on the quality of work as well as the meeting of deadlines.

Final Grade
Final speech grades are calculated as follows:
20% = preparation grade as determined by advisor
80% = average of faculty grades*
*The highest and lowest faculty grade will automatically be dropped from the calculation of this average.
Mrs. Paul will calculate the final grade and assemble the speech evaluation forms in a file folder. Your folder will not be returned to you until you have submitted to Mrs. Paul your bibliography and speech text. Your advisor will let you know when it is available so that the two of you can meet to review the evaluations, after which the folder and all of its contents will be returned to Mrs. Paul. (Note: You may not review the folder until you have submitted your final draft and bibliography. See the Deadlines page for further details.)
