Each senior is assigned to work with a faculty member who serves as the speech advisor. At a minimum, the advisor will:
help keep the speaker on track to meet deadlines and assign the speaker to late backwork if necessary
read the rough draft and offer feedback on the content, organization, style, etc.
read and approve the final draft
be present at scheduled speech practices and offer feedback on the delivery
introduce the speaker in chapel on the day of the speech
review faculty evaluations with the speaker
In addition to the mandatory rough draft deadline two weeks in advance of the speech date, faculty advisors may request to see other preparatory work (thesis statement, outline, bibliography, etc.) Be sure to discuss these expectations with your advisor and schedule any interim deadlines at your initial meeting in September. (See the Deadlines page for specific details.)
Note: Should you wish to solicit feedback from faculty members other than the speech advisor or Speech Program Director, you must ask your speech advisor for permission.
