Topic Proposals
Every speech topic must be approved by Mrs. Paul. Your topic must be submitted via Google Form at least 8 weeks prior to your speech. Any change in topic must also be approved, including a change from a PRO to CON position once you are underway in your research.
In order to secure approval of your topic, you must submit a formal proposal that includes your topic, position (pro or con), 3 supporting points, and 3 opposition points.
Sample proposal:
PRO Banning the production, sale, and possession of assault weapons for private citizens
Supporting points:
The monetary and human costs incurred by crimes committed with assault weapons are too great.
Such a ban will lower the increasing occurrence of barbaric public slayings.
Such a ban is supported heavily by public opinion, major organizations, and law enforcement officials.
Opposition points:
Strict gun laws will have no effect on crime rates.
Outlaws would still find a way to obtain weapons.
Gun ownership is a constitutional right.
Note: If you have an idea for a topic, but you want to find out if it is suitable or if it has been done too recently or already reserved before you work up a formal proposal, please contact Mrs. Paul.
