In the 2017-2018 school year, I’d like to implement an enrichment opportunity for students in grades 4-5 called “AIG Academies.” The goal of AIG Academies is to bring our valuable parent experiences and community expertise to our students. Each Academy will have a different content focus, based on the skills of our parent/community instructors. Students will choose Academies to attend based on their interests, strengths, and needs. Some possible Academy topics include:
This is ONLY a list of possible suggestions; I’d like the topics to stem from genuine interest and expertise. For parents/community members who are interested, but apprehensive or unsure of where to begin, I am happy to provide whatever guidance and support is needed.
Academies will meet on Fridays during the intervention/enrichment block. Each Academy will meet for 4 consecutive Fridays (please see the attached calendar). Parents/community members will choose a topic of interest and design a 4-lesson unit to share with the students. Academy Instructors are welcome to work in pairs or groups to manage the four Friday commitment (or for camaraderie and moral support).
If you are interested, or know of someone who might be an engaging Academy instructor, please contact me. tara.mulvey@nhcs.net
I so look forward to developing this 21st century opportunity for our students! Thank you in advance for your support!
