All full-time faculty should be sure to read the Full-Time Faculty Handbook, which includes information on the categories in which faculty will generally be reviewed--teaching and pedagogy; research, scholarship, creative and professional practice; and leadership and service--and the differences in review and expectations by appointment type. For complete information on preparing the review dossier, regardless of review type, consult the Dossier Guidelines (PDF) and the Operational Guidelines (PDF). Also, faculty may wish to consult the following for information about preparing the academic CV, documenting teaching and the review timeline.Â
Each year, the Faculty Center offers a series of information sessions on the review process, expectations, timeline and dossier preparation for faculty standing for review in the following year. In addition, after the end of the spring semester and several weeks before dossiers are due, the Faculty Center offers a dossier preparation workshop in which individual faculty preparing their dossiers may work with a senior faculty mentor focused on writing the professional narrative: the story of one's professional activities in teaching and advising; research, scholarship, and creative and professional practice; and leadership and service; which will be evidenced by supporting materials in the dossier's Appendix. (For full information about the professional narrative, consult the Dossier Guidelines.) Individual faculty who wish to begin work on the dossier earlier may request a faculty mentor during the spring semester. Finally, sample dossiers will be provided for faculty to review examples of different styles of presentation and to consider how other faculty have written their professional narratives. Faculty are invited to contact Rita Pisalet Breidenbach, Associate Provost for Faculty Development, at any time with any questions about the review process.
All full-time faculty are expected to submit an annual self report for review by their program and/or dean's office. Any questions about the annual faculty review should be directed to Katie Wanner at WannerK@newschool.edu.
