PSAT Test – October
Any sophomore or junior interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) test should bring a check made payable to “Nevada High School” in the amount of $16 to the NHS Counseling Center in September. This is non-refundable if the student misses the test. The scores that sophomores obtain on this test will not count toward the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT), but they are encouraged to take the test to better prepare for their junior year PSAT/NMSQT.
The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing skills developed over many years, both in and out of school. Those taking the test will not have to recall facts from literature, history, or science, or complete math formulas, as this test measures their reasoning and critical thinking skills. Students taking the test will receive feedback about critical academic skills, start getting ready for college, and enter scholarship competitions(Juniors Only). This test is voluntary. Questions about the test may be answered in the Counseling Center.
Test Site – NHS - Starts at 7:50am. Ends approximately 12:30pm. Students will miss all of 1st through 5th hours and may miss all or part of 6th hour and will eat during 3rd lunch on this day.
Plan on taking the Practice Test in the “Official Student Guide” on your own before the actual test. You will receive this guide once you have paid the $16 testing fee.
