Class Expectations

Grading:

You will be graded on a points system for each term and then the 4 terms will be averaged to give you your final grade. Terms tend to be around 250-300 points.

Typical Point Values:

Tests = 70- 100 pts

Quizzes = 30-60 pts

Formal Labs = 75 pts

CER = 20-30 pts

HW = 3 pts (rarely checked)

Projects = 50-100 pts

Extra Credit: Each student can do test corrections for TWO and ONLY TWO tests or quizzes or lab rewrite throughout the year. While I believe strongly that students need learn how to perform well in high stakes situations, however everyone has a bad day from time to time. To submit test corrections fill out this form, (meet with me for lab rewrites) complete the corrections as explained on the form, and hand in the test, form, and corrections all stapled together.

Extra Help: XBlock or I generally am in my room (104) for about a half an hour before and after school waiting for students. If no one shows up I leave, but if students show up I will generally stay as long as they would like unless I have other commitments.

Late/ missed work:

- Daily homework is not accepted late.

- Larger assignments like labs will lose 5% for each school day late.

- YOU are responsible for any work that you miss while out. I will not chase you down. Check with classmates, check the daily slides, check with me.

What I expect of you:

-Be respectful of me and of your classmates who are trying to learn.

-Don't be late for class. I consider on time to be in your seat when the bell rings ready to begin class.  If repeated tardiness is causing an issue with your learning or is a distraction to the class there will be disciplinary consequences.

-Keep your bags on the ground and your head off your desk.

-You are expected to take notes, engage in discussions and follow along with example problems.

-Ask permission to leave class. I will let one person out at a time.

-No food in class, no drinks at the lab tables.

-Don't let your electronics distract you from your learning. I will help you by removing the distraction if you cannot self regulate this.

-You are always expected to have a calculator, you are not allowed to share or use phone calculators on a test.

- Check your school email daily.

- I discourage Laptops and tablets from being used for note taking. There is significant research to say that students who take notes long hand retain and understand information better than those who take notes on laptops. Also the number of drawings and calculations that you will encounter makes notes on a laptop much more difficult.

- Cheating of any kind may result in a 0 for a part or the entire assignment and possibly more consequences with the administration.
