Swanton Crossroads Class Descriptions
Winter Session 2025-2026 - December 1 to February 19 for Grades 4-6
MONDAYS
-COOKING & NUTRITION: What is better in winter than some nice homemade bread, fresh baked cookies and being able to enjoy them with friends? Of course, with the season of sharing, we will do just that with some of our tasty treats that we make.
-DESTINATION IMAGINATION: We have a great team started but there is room for a few more! Solve awesome STEAM challenges, develop your creative side, plan, build and present your own solution! We are looking for a committed group of kids to take to the Destination Imagination Competition in March. Practices will take place every Monday (as long as Crossroads is running) until that competition. You will continue to be enrolled in this program on Mondays in future sessions. Please be sure this is a program you will stick to the rest of the year.
-DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (BEGINNERS): Welcoming players into the fantasy world of D&D. Sit down, roll dice and get lost in the story told by your Dungeon Master. Learn the basics in this beginner-level class. Fighting creatures, saving villagers, collecting treasure and more is waiting. The world is yours!
-OPEN GYM: This is that chance to come to the gym and do what you want! Floor hockey, soccer, kickball? You choose!
-WINTER CRAFTING: We will be doing all kinds of fall crafts this session from holiday gifts to make and take, to some serious Sharpie Marker art!
TUESDAYS
-COVER TO COVER YEARBOOK CLUB (GR 6): Are you a sixth grader? Curious about what your year book will look like? Well here is your chance to help plan and put the year book together!
-DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (ADVANCED): Have you played D&D before? Get more in depth with this fantasy role-playing game in our advanced class. Fighting creatures, saving villagers, collecting treasure and more is waiting. The world is yours!
-GAME SHUFFLE: What better way to spend a day than playing a familiar board game with a friend or maybe trying out a new game.
-JR. IRON CHEF @SWANTON REC (GR 5-6): With Miss Nicole’s guidance, students will work as a team to create and perfect a delicious and healthy recipe. We’ll take the cooking skills we learn along the way to compete against other teams from across Vermont at the statewide competition on March 14th in Essex. See if your recipe will be good enough to add to school menus throughout the state!
-MODERN TECH LAB (GR 6): Have fun with hands-on experiments with your friends and gain practical experience in robotics and modern tech. No experience necessary: you will control robots, build apps, and design interfaces with a specialized coach! This program takes place at Swanton School, in collaboration with MVU. 7th & 8th graders may participate and mentor Swanton students. Must register for Tuesday and Thursday.
-AFTER TUTORING ACTIVITY: Swanton Tutoring students can receive after school meals on Tuesdays & Thursdays but must have a Crossroads registration/permission form on file. Please indicate if your student will stay for Crossroads after their tutoring session is over when completing the form. Students who stay after tutoring will have thirty minutes of an open art and game time. Prior registration with the tutoring program is required.
WEDNESDAYS
-BUILDING CHALLENGES: Not just LEGO! Try your hand at KEVA planks, building blocks and even cardboard boxes.
-COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS: The Kindness Boxes have been started, and will continue through this community service class. With the winter holidays approaching, we are hoping to reach out in other ways to help our community.
