Swanton Crossroads Class Descriptions
Spring Session 2026 - March 9 to June 4 for Grades 4-6
MONDAYS
-DESTINATION IMAGINATION: returning team only
-DUNGEONS & DRAGONS-BEGINNERS (gr 5-6): Step into the fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragons! In this beginner group, you’ll jump right into the adventure using a pre-made character. Roll dice, roleplay your hero, and explore a story guided by your Dungeon Master. You’ll learn the basics as you battle creatures, save villagers, and hunt for treasure. No experience needed. The world is yours!
-OPEN GYM: Got energy to burn? Open Gym is the place to be! After a long day of sitting at a desk, it’s time to get moving. Whether you want to shoot hoops, start a game of tag, or just run around with your friends, the gym is yours.
-STIR IT UP!: Stop playing with your food and start cooking it! Stir It Up is the ultimate class for kids who love to eat and want to learn how to make their own delicious creations. Whether you want to master the perfect snack or help out with dinner at home, this is where you start.
TUESDAYS
-DUNGEONS & DRAGONS-ADVANCED (gr 5-6): Already played D&D before? This group is for you. You’ll spend the first two sessions creating your own character and shaping who they are before the adventure begins. Then dive deep into epic stories, tough battles, big choices, and unforgettable quests. Fight creatures, save villagers, and leave your mark on the world. The world is yours!
-LEGO ROBOTICS: Bring your Legos to life! In Lego Robotics, we don’t just build static models—we build machines that move and react. Whether you are a master builder or a future engineer, this class puts the power of programming in your hands. Must attend Tues & Thurs.
-SIGN IT OUT!: Ever wanted to talk across the room without making a sound? Join Sign It Out! and discover the awesome world of American Sign Language (ASL). It’s not just about moving your hands—it’s about using your face, your body, and your energy to communicate.
-TRAVELING MINDS: Pack your bags and grab your passport! In Traveling Minds, we go on a new adventure every week. From the jungles of Brazil to the castles of Europe, we explore the coolest places on Earth.
WEDNESDAYS
-CODE CREW: Code Crew empowers students to move from technology consumers to technology creators. In this supportive environment, students are guided through the fundamentals of computer science using different platforms.
-CRAFTING AROUND THE WORLD: Pack your creative bags! We will head over to Swanton Public Library, where we’ll take a trip to a new country every week through art. No passport required—just your imagination and some glue! We will explore colorful traditions and make cool souvenirs to bring home.
-GROOVE & GO: Can’t stop tapping your feet in class? Groove and Go is the place to let it all out! Join Tria to learn fresh choreography to your favorite upbeat songs. We keep the energy high and the stress low.
-JEWELRY MAKING: Why buy accessories when you can make them? Jewelry Making is for the fashion-forward student who wants to create professional-looking pieces. We move beyond simple stringing to explore real jewelry design.
-STAR PERFORMERS: Star Performers helps students find their voice. In this supportive environment, JoAnn uses theater games to teach public speaking skills, empathy, and collaboration. We focus on the "ensemble"—working together to tell a story. Students will learn the basics of stage presence, vocal projection, and physical acting. It is a fantastic way for students to break out of their shells, overcome stage fright, and learn to express themselves creatively.
THURSDAYS
-LEGO ROBOTICS: See Description Above Must attend Tues & Thurs.
-KID DETECTIVES: We’re on the case! In each class we will play interactive improv games to focus on our observation skills, solve escape room puzzles, watch or read mystery stories, create characters and plots, and maybe even design our own mystery to solve.
-THYME TO PLANT: It’s Thyme to Plant! If you don’t mind getting a little dirt under your fingernails, join Brook for the ultimate gardening club. This isn’t just about watching grass grow—we are building a green space from the ground up.

-AFTER TUTORING ACTIVITY: Swanton Tutoring students can receive after school meals on Tuesdays & Thursdays but must have a Crossroads registration/permission form on file. Please indicate if your student will stay for Explorers after their tutoring session is over when completing the form. Prior registration with the tutoring program is required.
-GIRLS ON THE RUN/HEART & SOLE: GOTR and Heart & Sole inspire individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. This program will meet Mondays and Tuesdays starting March 16th from 3:00-4:30 until the big 5k event in Essex on Saturday, May 30th. No practices during holidays and vacations. Separate Girls on the Run registration is required; please sign up through the GOTR website on February 18th. Participants can receive after school meals and use bus transportation on Mondays and Tuesdays but must have a Crossroads registration/permission form on file. (Please note, this does not account for transportation to the 5k event).
Swanton Explorers Class Descriptions

MONDAYS
-BEAD BUDDIES: Ready to make something you can wear? Join Bead Buddies and become a jewelry design pro! Morgan has bins full of colorful beads, cool charms, and sparkly strings just waiting for your creativity. This is the perfect class for kids who love to design, create, and share with friends.
-CREATIVE CORNER: Does your child love to create? Creative Corner is the perfect safe space for 1st through 3rd graders to explore their artistic side. Led by the patient and enthusiastic Ms. Whitney, this class focuses on building confidence through creativity.
-LIFE CYCLES:Come witness the magic of nature! in Life Cycles, we become biology detectives. How does a wiggly caterpillar turn into a beautiful butterfly? How does a swimming tadpole turn into a hopping frog? Join to find out!
TUESDAYS
-CLAY CREATIONS: Get ready to get your hands dirty! Clay Creations is the ultimate 3D art class. We aren’t just drawing pictures—we are building them. Whether you want to make a pinch-pot monster, a cool coil bowl, or your favorite animal, this class turns a lump of clay into a masterpiece.
-PLANT PALS: Do you like playing in the dirt? Then you’re ready to become a Plant Pal! Join us for a hands-on adventure where we explore the magic of nature. We’ll learn how a tiny seed turns into a giant sunflower or a tasty vegetable, and we’ll have a lot of fun getting messy along the way.
WEDNESDAYS
-HEARTS AND MINDS: Did you know kindness is a superpower? In Hearts and Minds, we learn how to be the best version of ourselves. Through fun games, art projects, and storytelling, we explore what makes us unique and how to be a great friend.
-SIGN & SHINE: Did you know your hands can talk? In Sign and Shine, we learn how to say "Hello," "Friend," and "Cookie" without making a sound! Join Wyatt for a super fun introduction to American Sign Language (ASL). We will wiggle our fingers, stomp our feet, and learn to sign our favorite songs.
THURSDAYS
-BOOKWORMS: Open a book and unlock a new world! Bookworms isn't your average library time—it’s an action-packed journey through our favorite stories. Whether we are hunting for treasure, flying with dragons, or solving a mystery, every week is a new adventure.
-COOKING CORNER: Do you love to help out in the kitchen? Are you ready to trade your pencils for spatulas? Welcome to Cooking Corner with Kathy, the tastiest club in school! We believe that the kitchen is the best place to be creative, get a little messy, and have a whole lot of fun.
-POWER PLAY: Do you have wiggles you need to get out? Power Play is the answer! Join us for non-stop action where moving your body is the name of the game. We run, we jump, and we play the best gym games ever invented.
