3.0 Scope
This standard applies to all machines connected to the Murray State University networks.

4.0 Standard

4.1 Basic Information

  • NEVER open any files or macros from an unknown, suspicious or untrustworthy source. Delete these attachments immediately, then "double delete" them by emptying your Trash.
  • Never download files from unknown or suspicious sources.
  • Avoid direct disk sharing with read/write access unless there is absolutely a business requirement to do so.
  • Always scan external media (ex. thumb drives, external hard drives) from an unknown source for viruses before using it.
4.2 Murray State Owned Machines
All Murray State University owned machines must install McAfee anti-virus, anti-spyware and the ePO agent, unless authorized otherwise by Information Systems. The only exception to this rule is any Linux or UNIX operating system must install an approved anti-virus/anti-spyware software which can be found here, unless authorized otherwise by Information Systems.

4.3 Non-Murray State Owned Machines
All non-Murray State owned machines that connect to any Murray State University network must have one of the following anti-virus and anti-spyware programs installed and updated with the latest definitions. The list of these authorized anti-virus and anti-spyware programs can be found here.

5.0 Definitions
ePO Agent
McAfee add-on that allows your computer to download updates from a Murray State University owned server rather than directly from McAfee.
