From the MSAD 51 Strategic Plan:
GOAL 1: ENGAGE. EMPOWER. INSPIRE Objective 2 - 21st Century Learning
"By the end of grades 3, 5, 8, and 10 and/or 12, students will demonstrate evidence of attainment of selected 21st century learning skills through a culminating event that incorporates a public audience, hands-on component, real-world application, and reflection."
The purpose of Senior Projects is to provide graduating seniors with an opportunity to engage in community service, "hands-on" or "real life" work, or individual development in an area of personal interest outside of the classroom setting at the completion of the high school experience.
The Senior Project Program, first included as a part of the Greely curriculum in the 2010-2011 school year, came out of the hard work of many members of the Greely community including students, teachers, administrators, school board members, and dedicated citizens of Cumberland and North Yarmouth. In its first year, only a few dozen seniors completed projects as a pilot. In its second year in 2011-2012, the number of students completing projects exploded to near 100 seniors and the program has continued to grow each year.
