Grading Policy

Band is a curricular program and students will receive grades with thwir regular report card. Along with weekly band lessons and rehearsals, there will be three evening throughout the year. Students are encouraged to make practicing part of their daily routine (recommended practice is at least 15 minutes a day) and are expected to complete a monthly Practice Chart to turn in at the end of each month. Students will earn points for their practice as well as for each lesson, rehearsal and concert they attend.  There will be opportunities to earn extra points by taking private lessons, attending outside concerts or completing activity worksheets. Students will also be assessed on their individual progress by performing occasional Playing Tests in lessons.  The points and Playing Tests will be used to determine students’ grades for band.
