The M50 motor I purchased to replace my existing blown M50 had some oil leaks around the cylinder head cover (also known as the valve cover or cam cover). To eliminate the leaks, I decided to replace the cover's gaskets and seals, and clean the cover up while it was off.
Parts
Here's the cover on the engine, already considerably cleaned up.
Scraping oil build up off the under-side of the cover.
Buffing the cover's gasket-mating surfaces, just enough to clean off deposits, which helps prevent leaks after installation of the new gasket. The circle on the right (spark plug cavity surface) hasn't been buffed yet.
Cleaned up and sanded. Ready for primer.
After one coat of primer.
Painted and ready for reinstallation.
