MCS Writing Proficiency & Genres
The MCS goal is for a student to meet or exceed expectations on two of three of the types of writing genres assessed at the end of each trimester.
The three types of writing:
Opinion
Informative/ExplanatoryΒ

Opinion
An opinion writing states a point of view and supports it with reasons. You want readers to think, agree with your ideas, and take action.

Informative-Explanatory
An informative writing informs or explains a topic. You want readers to learn from your report, instructions, or explanation.
Narrative
There are three types of narratives. An imaginative narrative or fictional story about characters and events that are made up; A non-fictional narrative or story based on real people and events; A personal narrative or true story about something that happened to the writer. You want readers to understand the situation, recognize characters, and follow the plot.
