Grades
Mr. Madrigal's Grading System
Promoted, Assigned, or Retained
Many factors are considered when determining whether a student will be promoted, assigned, or retained. Teachers place students based on their classroom performance, academic proficiency, social, emotional and physical development.
Students progress through the Districtโs grade levels by demonstrating growth in learning or mastery of proficiency expectations in the required basic skills.ย
Commonly, students who demonstrates growth in learning primarily in reading proficiency, English language arts, and mathematics will be assigned to 5th grade.ย
A few students with mastery of proficiency expectations in their proficiency in reading, English language arts, and mathematics are promoted to 5th grade.ย
Rarely, a student may be retained on the basis of failure to meet minimum levels of proficiency, as indicated by grades and District Assessments.ย Retention for students in grades 4ย is identified primarily on the basis of their proficiency in reading, English language arts, and mathematics.ย
