Social Studies

Be a CT Social Studies Ambassador this summer! Are you interested in the history of your community and Connecticut? Are you interested in taking civic action in your home, your town, or the state? This summer you can be an anthropologist, archaeologist, biographer, community activist, curator, investigator, historical designer, kindness ambassador, and/or leader and voter! Join students from around Connecticut in the 2022 CT Social Studies Summer Challenge that was created by the CT State Department of Education in partnership with the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies, Connecticut Democracy Center at Connecticut’s Old State House, and CT Public.

World Language

Aligned with the ACTFL World Readiness Standards for Language Learning, the MPS World Language Department consistently seeks opportunities to provide students with opportunities to engage in authentic reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the target language and to learn about cultures around the world. Consistent opportunities to read, write, speak, and listen are critical to language acquisition and developing proficiency, and we hope that all 6-12 students will stay engaged in World Languages throughout the summer! See below for resources to help you stay engaged and practice your language skills this summer:

Other opportunities to improve your language skills... Have a conversation with a friend in Spanish or French. Listen to an audiobook or podcast in Spanish or French. Read a book or watch a movie in Spanish or French. Using the language is the best way to become proficient!

Career and Technical Education

Did you know that Middle school students participating in career exploratory programs and activities are more likely to develop achievable educational and career paths in high school?

It’s never too early to start preparing for a career.  This summer to help students investigate today’s skills for tomorrow’s careers, the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) has created this fun CTE BINGO activity.  Download the program packet to begin exploring careers this summer!

Milford Public Library Summer Program

The Milford Public Library challenges you to read 500 minutes this summer! For each 100 minutes you read you will receive tickets that make you eligible for prizes. See the flyer below for information on the summer reading program, as well as all of the great events at the Milford Public Library.

Why complete summer reading? Reading throughout the summer provides "engaging options and opportunities to assist in sharpening essential college, career, and civic knowledge while better poising them for academic success in the fall" (source: CT Department of Education)
