World Language

Summer Learning Information

Aligned with the ACTFL World Readiness Standards for Language Learning, the MPS World Language Department consistently seeks opportunities to provide students with opportunities to engage in authentic reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the target language and to learn about cultures around the world. Consistent opportunities to read, write, speak, and listen are critical to language acquisition and developing proficiency, and we hope that all 9-12 students will stay engaged in World Languages throughout the summer!

All World Language Students (Spanish, French & Latin)

See below for resources to help you stay engaged and practice your language skills this summer:

Other opportunities to improve your language skills... Have a conversation with a friend. Listen to an audiobook or podcast in the target language. Read a book or watch a movie in the target language. Using the language is the best way to become proficient!

AP Spanish Language & Culture

The AP Spanish Language & Culture course is designed to engage students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Throughout the school year, you will "develop your Spanish language skills and learn about the cultures in Spanish-speaking parts of the world, and practice communicating in Spanish and study real-life materials such as newspaper articles, films, music, and books."

Language acquisition requires continued practice. In preparation for AP Spanish, please complete the following learning activities throughout the summer.

Questions about AP Spanish? Please contact Sra. Morazzini at Foran (mamorazzini@milforded.org) and Sr. Rodriguez at Law (jrodriguez@milforded.org).

AP French Language & Culture

The AP French Language and Culture course "emphasizes communication (understanding and being understood by others) by applying interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational skills in real-life situations."

Language acquisition requires continued practice. In preparation for AP French, please read the book L'Étranger by Albert Camus. Please see Dr. Evans at Law and Mme. Almonte at Foran to pick up a copy of this book.
