Book Borrowing Policy

Each class will visit the media center on an assigned day, at which time they may check out one book. Books are due at the next scheduled book exchange day, and may be renewed if needed.  If the book is not returned, a friendly reminder notice will be sent home with the child, or sent electronically to the parent.  We do this as a way of asking parents to help children look for the book and return it to school, as we work on building a sense of responsibility in all students.   A child is never "in trouble" for forgetting a book, and we never charge late fines!

Should a student be unable to find his/her library book, it will need to be paid for before the student may borrow another.  Likewise, if the book is damaged beyond repair it must be paid for before borrowing privileges may continue.  If necessary, parents may contact Mrs. Harkey to arrange a payment plan for a lost or damaged book and the student may continue to borrow books, as long as the terms of the agreement are being met.  If you pay for a lost book and then find it before the end of the same school year, we will gladly refund your money as long as the book is returned in good condition within that school year.

Each child also has an account within our Destiny Library Management system where they can sign in to see what book they currently have checked out, as well as browse our library catalog.  Students may also read our growing collection of ebooks by clicking on Catalog, then choosing Destiny Discover on the left side, then select e-books. Unfortunately, our e-books cannot be downloaded to Kindle readers, but they can be read online and students can check them out and use an electronic bookmark so they can read over several sessions if needed.  These books will be automatically returned when due, or you may return them early with just a click! Remember, the Mooresville Public Library has a vast collection of e-books and these can be accessed through ClassLink as long as a parent has agreed to permit the student to use these resources during yearly school registration.

Thank you for cooperating with our borrowing policy and helping us maintain a quality collection for our wonderful students!
