Meet the Media Coordinator

Hello!  My name is Susie Harkey, and I am the Media Coordinator at Park View Elementary. After earning a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from UNC Charlotte in 1992, I began teaching fourth grade at NF Woods School in Mooresville. The next year I moved with the fourth graders to Park View.  After teaching second, third, and fourth grades at Park View, I took some time off to be home with my new baby.  When she started kindergarten at Park View in 2005, I returned as the media coordinator!  I earned my master's degree in library and information studies from UNC Greensboro.  In 2010 and again in 2020, I was honored to be elected by my fellow teachers as Park View’s Teacher of the Year.  In 2011 I achieved National Board Certification in the area of library media for pre-K-young adult, and I renewed my certification in 2022. My husband, step-son, daughter-in-law, and daughter all graduated from MGSD.  I also have a granddaughter who is now a Park View Patriot, and my grandson will be ready for kindergarten before you know it! In my free time I enjoy visiting the beach with my family, playing with my miniature schnauzer, Bubbie, and reading good books!  I love being a school librarian, and I strive to instill my love of learning and reading in all of my students!
