Academic Honesty
In an effort to further promote a positive school climate and high academic standards, the following procedures have been developed:
All members of the MDI High School learning community are expected to exhibit honesty and integrity at all times. Academic work submitted by a student must be an original effort. Copying or allowing other students to copy outside class work, plagiarism of other people's words or ideas including failure to cite written, electronic, or verbal sources, cheating on exams, or the theft, distribution or unauthorized use of testing materials will not be tolerated. Students should be very aware of the guidelines established by their individual teachers concerning the use of material found on the internet through the World Wide Web for meeting specific course requirements. These actions will be subject to the consequences stated below:
LEVEL 1 VIOLATIONS
Consequence
copying or allowing to be copied: homework, lab reports, portfolio or other student's collaborative group work
consequence to be determined by the teacher in consultation with an administrator, the student is required to submit an original assignment and official notification of parents from the classroom teacher
LEVEL 2 VIOLATIONS
Consequence
plagiarism on reports, term papers, projects, and portfolios
cheating on exams
repeat Level 1 violations
the incident will be referred to an administrator and/or the Restorative Board
parents will be informed by the classroom teacher
LEVEL 3 VIOLATIONS
Consequence
distribution/receipt of test questions and portfolio
habitual Level 1 and 2 violations
the incident will be referred to an administrator and/or the Restorative Board
parents will be informed by the classroom teacher

PLEASE NOTE:
Repeat offenses carry over from year to year throughout a student's time at MDI High School and repeated violations may result in loss of course credit.
All violations will be documented by the teacher and kept either on file in the Dean of Curriculum's office (Level 1) or in the student's file (Levels 2 and 3)
