Chemistry is the study of the substances that make up our world and the changes that they undergo. This is a college level class that will study the structure of atoms and molecules and relate this to the behavior of these substances in students’ everyday lives. Students will learn safe laboratory practices, and design and perform investigations in teams. Topics to be studied include atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, and energy in chemical reactions, equilibrium, states of matter, and acids and bases.
NEW in 2022. The year long high school course will cover the content of and provide opportunity to earn college credits through MSCTC for the course Chem 1111: General Chemistry. This is a 5 credit class.
This course is recommended for any student considering a health or science-related vocation or college. Students are required to take one of the following: Chemistry, CIS Chemistry, or Physics (offered again in 2023-24 school year).
We will be using the textbook: Chemistry: The Central Science (see below)
If you are a parent/guardian of a current student of mine, please complete this survey about Ms. Melgaard's policies, your contact information, and lab safety. Click here for survey.
Below is the agenda for the week and further down this page are some resources. If you are looking for assignments or handouts, go to the Google Classroom for this class (current students only).
