Contemporary Social Issues
Welcome to Contemporary Social Issues. This class is all about the events our society is dealing with today. You don’t have to look far, but we’re dealing with a lot right now. We will explore these events and see how they affect us here in our community. A big part of this class will be discussion in order to create a dialogue to talk about these issues our world is dealing with. Another big part of that process is having an open mind to learn from other perspectives on these issues. Our class will do its best to give you a chance to explore these issues and hopefully gain a deeper understanding in the process.
We will be covering the following topics / themes throughout the duration of the course.
~ The Environment
~ Politics
~ Military Conflicts around the world
~ The economy
~ Covid-19 Pandemic
~ Current Events & Social Issues
In order to discuss these topics knowledgeably, one must put forth the effort to stay informed. Students will be expected to watch the local news each evening or morning. We will be taking weekly quizzes on current events.
Quizzes, projects and our final exam will be 70% of your grade. Smaller assignments, in-class participation will be about 30% of your grade.
