Electromagnetic applet — This applet illustrates the propagation of electromagnetic fields from a transmitter to a receiver
Gif showing the eardrum receiving a sound wave — This site provides information and an animated gif showing how the eardrum receives sound waves.
Guitar string longitudinal waves — Animated gif of a guitar string after being plucked.
Longitudinal Waves — This site address the characteristics of longitudinal waves.
Online Course on the Principles of ocean surface waves and ships — This online course from MIT introduces the principles of ocean surface waves and their interactions with ships, offshore platforms and advanced marine vehicles. Surface wave theory is developed for linear and nonlinear deterministic and random waves excited by the environment, ships, or floating structures. Following the development of the physics and mathematics of surface waves, several applications from the field of naval architecture and offshore engineering are addressed.
Physics Classroom Web site — This site contains an extensive set of notes on basic topics in physics. There are extensive illustrations and animations along with the text. Also included are self-quizzes, and shockwave quizzes and tutorials.
Sound and light wave video — This You Tube video explores and explains sound and light waves.
Standing Tube in a wave animation — This animation allows one to choose a tube open at both ends, closed at both ends, or closed at one end, and shows simulated air particles as well as animated graphs of pressure and displacement changes.
The characteristics of sound and wave lengths — THis site gives a comprehensible overview of the property of sound and wave lengths.
Tuning Fork — Animated gif of a tuning fork operating, with additional explanation.
Wave Animations — This site has animations to help illustrate the difference between the three major types of waves
Waves instruction website — Project CLAW: Conceptual Learning Approach to Waves. A website focused on teaching the behavior and interaction of waves. Key words: waves, mechanical waves, reflection refraction, diffraction, interference, standing waves, beats, polarization, polarimetry
Wave Tutorials — This is a set of interactive tutorials designed to teach the fundamentals of wave dynamics. It starts with very simple wave properties and ends with an examination of nonlinear wave behavior. The emphasis here is on the properties of waves which are difficult to illustrate in a static textbook figure. The tutorial may be used in conjunction with a text or as a stand alone introduction to waves.
