School Closings and Delays

MANCHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT CLOSING PROCEDURES

FOR SNOWSTORMS AND/OR OTHER EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

Per statutory requirement, the Superintendent of Schools and/or his designee is responsible for decisions relative to school closings and delayed openings.

The Manchester Superintendent or designee shall arrive at a carefully considered judgment through personal observation, national, state and local weather bureau forecasts and consultation with Highway and M.T.A. Authorities.

When a weather event or emergency compromises the safety of our students and staff, the Manchester School District may decide to close school for the day, delay the opening of school, or dismiss school early. The Superintendent of Schools takes this responsibility very seriously. He or she consults with the district’s city partners and departments, as well as superintendents in surrounding districts and weather forecasts before making a carefully considered judgement. The safety of our students and staff is always the first priority.

Announcements about closings and delays will be made no later than 5:30 am whenever possible.

Occasionally, weather conditions change or worsen quickly and require a later decision. It takes about a half hour for all notifications to be made. We encourage you to monitor any or all of the media channels and platforms where Manchester School District updates are available:
