green machine

The Green Machine is our student council and government organization that includes Hillside students in grades 6-8. We are attempting to carry on the spirit and tradition of long-time Green advisor and Hillside teacher Nancy Gati, who dedicated over 30 years of her career to this very special group of youngsters.

The mission of the Green Machine is to lead and to serve our Hillside community. Our 8th grade class plays a very important role in the Green Machine each year serving as the officers and leaders of the Hillside student council that can consist of an Executive Council, Cabinet and Board of Directors. We also have representatives and delegates from all three grades who are also integral members of the Green Machine.

We meet multiple times during the week as a group as well as individual grades during Advisory to discuss, organize, plan and run different activities and events at Hillside that includes assemblies, dances, tournaments, community awareness campaigns, a talent show and fundraisers for different non-profit organizations over the years such as Make-A-Wish, Special Olympics, American Red Cross, Marine Corps Toys for Tots, CHaD (Children's Hospital at Dartmouth), Pennies for Patients, American Cancer Society, Honor Flight, Veterans Count and Liberty House as well as the Hillside Thanksgiving Food Drive and Hillside Clothes and Winter Boots Drive. We have also joined together with Hillside's dynamic student organization, the Builders' Club, over the years to work in collaboration to help the needy families of Hillside and our community.

Just as in years past, this year's Green Machine members have followed the lead of our 8th grader officers and have done an outstanding job making significant contributions to this extremely important civic learning opportunity that has benefited the Hillside community in many ways. Very proud and thankful for their terrific effort and caring attitude.
