The Wizard of Oz

Hillside Production of

The Wizard of Oz

By: Desmond Lee

The Wizard of Oz is a classic and famous piece of American literature, spawning dozens of movies, plays, and spinoffs, and has inspired phrases and moments that are now iconic. Most recently, The Wizard of Oz has inspired the good people at this very school to put on a production of L. Frank Baum’s iconic work. The production was performed for the school on January 13. This is an exclusive with Ms. Potoma.

First, how did she decide on The Wizard of Oz? According to Ms. Potoma, the answer is more personal than practical. “I’ve always loved The Wizard of Oz. It’s a classic literature story, and L. Frank Baum is one of my favorites. It’s just wacky and fun!” The story may be wacky and fun, but it's still a lot of work. “We had to make all of the background. The kids made the background, and my mother came in and helped with the costumes.” That’s every single piece of every background for every scene, and every costume for every single character! That’s a lot of work! Even though the play is a lot of work, it is still worth it. The Wizard of Oz is a fun, goofy, hilarious fan favorite.

Hopefully, that answered any questions you had about The Wizard of Oz. We can’t wait to see what play is performed next year.
