ENROLLMENT PROCESS FOR PEER PALS
Research shows that peer children who participate in a program alongside children with developmental delays will grow to become more independent and more empathetic adults. Our students grow together as they develop speech/language, social-emotional, cognitive, adaptive and physical skills. The inclusive setting has proven to be a successful experience for all children.
There will be a two week observation period to determine if a child demonstrates appropriate skills (social, play, and language) to be a Peer Pal in our program.
In order for Peer Pals to enhance our program we require the following:
Age appropriate language skills
Ability to separate easily from parent
Appropriate behavior
Interacts and plays with others
Toilet trained
Parent must commit to have child attend the days of the preschool
Parent must commit to pick up and drop off child at scheduled times
Excessive tardies or absences could be grounds for dismissal
Any special need of a Peer Pal cannot be greater or equal to students with developmental needs.
If for any reason a Peer Pal is no longer appropriate for our developmental preschool, we have the right to ask that he/she no longer return.
Must reapply every school year
The Peer Pals are here to enhance the education environment for our children with special needs. Due to the high needs of our children with developmental delays, the Peer Pal children will be dismissed from the program if he or she requires more care or attention than our staff can provide. This is a tuition free program.
