Adolescent Health Issues TWO

Health Education offers a prevention based course of study designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills and strategies to act responsibly in a rapidly changing world. The curriculum promotes healthy decision making and teaches the personal skills that enable students to confront the many social, physical and emotional challenges that occur throughout their lifetime. The health education curriculum addresses issues of adolescent development including: teenage brain development, drug and alcohol use, peer pressure, personal responsibility, independence, social and emotional health including depression and suicide prevention, and human sexual education/human sexuality issues. This is all part of the journey from adolescence to adulthood. Interwoven into the curriculum are skill-based strategies including decision-making, problem solving, communication techniques and conflict resolution.
