Adolescent Health Issues ONE

Health Education offers a prevention based course of study designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills and strategies to act responsibly in a rapidly changing world. The curriculum promotes healthy decision making and teaches the personal skills that enable students to confront the many social, physical and emotional challenges that occur throughout their lifetime. The curriculum also addresses issues of adolescent development including: teenage brain development, social and emotional health including depression and suicide prevention, emerging sexuality, drug and alcohol use, peer pressures, personal responsibility, independence, and feelings of invulnerability and immortality all part of the journey from adolescence to adulthood. Interwoven into the curriculum are skill based strategies including problem solving, communication techniques, conflict resolution and decision-making models.
