Position Description:
These volunteers are crucial in keeping the parking lots moving. These members are tasked with ensuring that each arriving driver remains with the car for relocation and/or directing cars to their next location in the flow of move-in day traffic.
Volunteers are responsible for directing vehicles to the appropriate buildings based on color-coded cards displayed on the dashboard (a map and information about the color-coding system will be provided) and keeping the flow going.
For volunteers who are designated for Parking Control specifically, that position involves pointing people in the right direction (which is usually to the next traffic assistant until they reach their destination).
Directions for the Parking & Traffic VOLUNTEERS on DAY OF MOOV:
For first shift only (8:00 am start): report to the Office of Housing Services, 63 University Drive, Rathbone Hall- balcony level, by 7:30 am to pick up equipment.
For all other shifts: report directly to your traffic/parking lot location. Find the current parking/traffic volunteer and trade off the equipment. We've built-in a 45-minute overlap for collaboration.
All traffic volunteers will direct vehicles to the appropriate buildings based on the color-coded cards on the dashboard. The color-coded cards correspond to color-coded arrows they should follow. Try to avoid having vehicles stop (which will hold up traffic).
Additional Directions for the Parking & Traffic VOLUNTEERS on DAY OF MOOV:
Walk to the respective residence hall and notify your traffic volunteers (these are the individuals with the walkie-talkies and orange vests) that you are here to assist with the parking lots.
As you see cars being unloaded, please kindly remind the driver they should remain with the car.
Once you've seen the car is unloaded, ask the driver to move their car to one of the parking areas for parents. They should follow the black arrows with a "P".
If there is some downtime, please walk around to those cars that may be parked in the lot.
If they are a first-year student family, there will be a colored card located on the windshield. This card will have the building and room of the vehicle's owner.
If you come across a car with no occupants, please walk (or send another volunteer) from the parking lot to residence hall rooms to help locate these owners.
