Faces of Cell

The Cell Press journals are some of the top journals in cell biology.  Thus, work published in these outlets are seen as highly impactful and a major advance in the field.  Cell Press highlights and promotes the diverse scientists that carry out these investigations on its "Faces of Cell" website. https://www.cell.com/cell/faces-of-cell

To explore some of the work that these underrepresented scientists have recently contributed, I would like you to pick one of the scientists featured on the "Faces of Cell" website listed on this spreadsheet and create a Google slide that provides an overview of their affiliation, their area of research, and the contribution of their article published in a Cell Press journal.  An example slide that the instructor has prepared is located here.  Only one slide per author, so please check the spreadsheet and sign up for a scientist before you research and make your slide.  After you have signed up, make your own copy of the example slide by (1) under File select Make a copy of the selected slide and (2) renaming it and saving it in your Google drive.  Use this slide as a template for preparing yours.  When your Google slide is complete print your slide and bring it to class.  The instructor will bring tape to hang your slide in class.  You will not be responsible for presenting the slide in class.

On your slide include (10pts total):
1. The scientists name and picture. (1pt)
2. Google their name and using Google Scholar/other websites list where they work and if possible where they earned their degrees.  (1pt)
3. Using the information provided on the Faces of Cell website list their underrepresented identity. (1pt)
4. Describe an overview of their area of research. (2pts)
5. List their publication in the Cell Press journal ( a link to this can be found by clicking on their name on the Faces of Cell website).  Just pick one if their are multiple publications.  Provide a 1-2 sentence summary of the discovery/advance provided by the publication and an image from the publication. (3pts)
6. List the URLs of any websites you used beyond the Faces of Cell Website. (1pt)
7. List your name. (1pt)
