cancer treatment and race

“All paradises, all utopias are designed by who is not there, by the people who are not allowed in.”

–Toni Morrison

Cancer research and treatment are not separated from the rest of society and like society cancer research and treatment engages in the intentional and unintentional practice of exclusion and differential treatment. Black, Latinx, and Native Americans have higher, often much higher, cancer mortality rates than those in the white population. To prepare for an in class discussion of why this is, what the consequences are, and what can done to change it, I have posted a number of articles that provide data and perspectives for us to consider. Please read one of the articles posted below and use your reading to complete the short assignment posted here.
