Protest Lab Members

PAST LAB MEMBERS

Gabe Trepanier

Gabe joined the lab because he wanted to get hands-on research experience. He is passionate about social justice and is an animal rights activist. He is often frustrated when people do not get involved in making social change, so studying collective action was a good fit. Gabe's favorite things to do include helping others, understanding something new about how the universe works, and electronic music composition. He hopes one day to change the unjust relationship between humans and non-humans on a global scale. If he could have any super power, it would be to freeze time so he could wander learning and fixing everything. Gabe aspires to earn a PhD in Psychology and wants his life's work to expand human empathy and altruism.

Isabel Thomas wanted to join this lab because she thinks that social psychology is super interesting and she really enjoyed Dr. D's class on it and wanted to continue learning. Isabel enjoys juggling and traveling in her free time. One thing she wants to do before she dies is to visit Europe and make art everywhere she goes. If she had a super power it would be to fly around so that she could mess with birds. After graduation, Isabel hopes to incorporate her connection to circus arts with her passion for psychology.

Sierra Enright

Sierra (LC '15) was an English and Psychology double major from Bainbridge Island, Washington. After taking Dr. Leonard's Social Psychology class her sophomore year, she was eager to take part in the lab in order to engage in further dialogue about emotions and how they influence every day experiences, how we make decisions, and prompt us to create change. She worked on team Protest for four semesters, helping to run studies that examined the role of emotion and appraisals in collective action responses to two types of disadvantage: structural and incidental. Sierra enjoys baking banana bread, getting lost in Powell's, drinking tea with friends, hiking in the Australian outback, and meeting baby sea turtles. She hopes to one day have read every Shakespeare play and Vonnegut novel. If she could have any super-power she would choose teleportation because she loves to travel. She has stayed in Portland after graduation, hoping to gain teaching experience and reading piles of books in her spare time.
